Here is the fix;
Start-run,type REGEDIT-ok
Locate the following:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\Current Version\Explorer\Volume Caches\Compress Old Files.
Rt click-Edit-Delete.
Quit registry editor
ALWAYS BACK UP BEFORE EDITING THE REGISTRY AS YOU CAN RENDER WINDOWS INOPERABLE IF YOU DELETE THE WRONG KEY!

please post back and let us know which fix worked so we can help others. posters.

After you do the above registry fix, reboot your computer.

Unlike Windows 98, XP does not come with Scandisk. You could do the defrag by going to Start / Run / type in "dfrg.msc" (without the quote) and hit Enter.

Once the dialogue box opens up, select a particular HD partition then click on the tab Action and select Analyze or Defrag. Analyze will check the status of the HD partition, and Defrag will perform the actual defragmentation process.

Thanks!! I often read elsewhere that when you change the registry, it will not take effect until you restart the computer. Or am i mistaken? I'm engulfed playing with the HTML stuff - its interesting!!
