Comment:

For the past month or so,i have been doing my thing on the comp. Then it will start to freeze up on and off. Then out of nowhere it crashes. Then when I turn it back on it says "disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter." When starting up before this message is displayed it detects no disks and says the Bios is not working properly. After recieving this message I can go no further. I put in the CD but it doesnt work. The only way it works is to leave it for about 2 hours, and then start it up cold, where it detects everything, and works perfectly, until its next crash.

I have AMD athalon 1200 ddr
512 mb RAM
28gb fujitsu hard drive
16x liteon dvd rom
40x read 16x write acer cd/rw
geforce 2 32mb graphics
10mb network card
asus motherboard

various software.

please help, I have seen many previous posts, some with kind of solutions, but none i can understand, so if anyone can help me work through this in relatively simple terms it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Rowan

Could be a number of things. Your hard drive migth be failing, your IDE ribbon cables could be loose, your CPU fan may not be spinning properly which could cause the CPU to overheat.

I would open the case, make sure the ribbon cables are secure, make sure the CPU fan is spinning properly, you can tell if a CPU fan is spinning at a proper speed by looking at it. If all that is good I would visit Fujitsu's web site and download their hard drive diagnostic utility and test the HDD.

I myself though would lean towards the hard drive being at fault.

ok, thanks mate, you think thats the only solution (well, i guess it could be IDE cables too). definately no software issue?

The message means the partition table was
deleted, corrupted or a hard disk failure.

You must repartition, reformat and reinstall
Windows.

You possibly have a defective hard disk drive.

There are times a failing system battery will invoke the same message. Check/replace your system battery.
