disk boot error

well,i recently had to reformat my HD cause it was getting a little messy.it had win 2000 on it and i was going to install win xp.so i just booted the xp cd when i restarted my comp.the installation went succesful.but the next day,my comp just restarted and said "Disk boot error,please insert boot disk."so i put the xp cd in the cdrom and tried to install it again.but this time it said "setup did not detect any hard drives to install on".so now im stuck....any help?

i tried auto detection in the Cmos but it still doesnt detect

test in different machine if poss

I also get the disk boot error message once in a while (I'm also running XP) but I just ctrl-alt-delete and it restarts fine.. it's really strange. I bought another harddrive and installed it and transferred my important stuff to it and I'm waiting for the other to die any day.. It's also a maxtor.. send it back to them. That's what I'm going to do when it dies. You've got 3 yr manufacturer warranty.
