Disc Read Error ...

Hey guys. I built this computer myself from all new parts about 10 months ago. Up until yesterday it has worked perfectly. Not a hitch in sight. Yesterday I was browsing for a certain video that I had watched before, clicked on the link and my browser (Google Chrome), just completely locked up. No problem, I figured I would just let it sort itself out or if worse came to worse I would close it in task manager. About 1 min goes by and I hit ctrl+alt+del to open task manager, then boom BSOD pops up. This is the first time I've seen the BSOD literally in years. My computer restarted and went through the normal boot process, but then it hangs. With this message "Disc read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart". If you push ctrl+alt+del it will restart, but just came back to the same message over and over. I tried putting in my Windows XP disc, and booting from that, but it gives me the message "Setup is analyzing current configuration" (or something like that) and then just goes to a black screen and no further, no progress. I can access BIOS just fine, but am not sure if I can do anything in there to fix the problem. Like I said earlier, I bought all of these parts new from newegg probably 10 months ago. Could the hard drive have just failed catastrophically? I only use this computer for 2 things, surfing the internet, and gaming. And was probably only using 20 gb of the hard disk, which has 250gb capacity.

So I turn to you guys for help!

Thanks.

In the BIOS it has my 2 pieces of SATA Hardware. My optical drive in SATA 1, and my HDD in SATA 2. All of my other SATA and IDE slots are blank, because they are not being used.

The BSOD came and went before I could write any of the errors down. It doesn't show up anymore. All I get is this "Disc read error" thing.
