If it's not broke don't replace it!! Well that's true in my case. I have been running a Win98se system for many years and it's still a great OS. In a moment of madness I went and bought a WinXP computer...and what a disappointment. It's user unfriendly in the extreme!!!For example I could enter My Favorites in the 98 by making 2 clicks. In XP I first have to close all open windows to get to the Desktop - that's where I put my Favorites icon - then click Favorites, etc.

I know someone will tell me to copy it to the start-up window. Fine, just tell me how. In 98 nobody told me because it was automatically there when you clicked on START. And so I can go on.My internet connection is at it's slowest ever!!! and here I was thinking WOW! Now I'm going to download the living daylight out of XP. Can someone please console me and tell me how to speed it up and how to put my Favorites on the Start menu.

When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Install the Yahoo anti-spy bar, it has 'bookmark' whereby you just click on it and the 'add' to add a new web you want. it also gets rid of spys, and stops pop-ups.

Dawie, "Can someone please console me and tell me how to speed it up and how to put my Favorites on the Start menu".

It's easy, right click your Start button, choose Properties, under the Start Menu tab click the Customize button, under the Advanced tab---Start Menu Items: checkmark "Favorites Menu", click OK/Apply/OK.

If any windows are open, then do the
Windows key + M
to minimize all windows to see Desktop.

Then do
Windows key + Shift + M
to return the windows to open.

I have no problem w/ XP at all. In fact I think it's 10 times better than 98/98SE. But that varies from person to person.

I'd say sooner or later you'll have no other choice but to switch XP because someday 98/98SE will no longer be supported and software developers will be making software for 2000/XP/VISTA only.

95, 98 98se and Me, support is pretty much gone. The only systems that microsoft is providing support for is 2000 and up.

June 11 is the end of support date.

Sounds a tad hysterical......you'll be very hard pressed to find anyone who'd go back to 98 once they've got used to XP.

Try this:

Right click on the task bar, highlight Toolbars then tick Quick Launch.

You now have a new tool bar with an Icon to take you direct to the desktop and hence your Favourites folder, and all only 2 clicks away...

You can drag any programmes you like there and create a shortcut for instant access, so create a shortcut to your Favourites folder and now it's only 1 click away...1 less than 98...

I don't call that unfriendly, you just need to open your mind and not be a Luddite!

BTW how much RAM have you got because XP needs 512 to run really comfortably.

Maybe run XP in Classic Mode, it has the look and feel of the WinME/W2K Desktop.
