Recently, I found that some of my devices have their drivers "disappear" whenever I boot up the system. For example, my onboard audio is reported in Device Manager, but is not listed in Sound Devices. I have to reinstall the drivers (using the same drivers listed in device manager) before I can use it. After I shut down, it disappears again. The same thing goes for my USB card reader. I've installed the drivers before, but every time I hook it up, Windows keeps asking for the drivers, even if it recognizes what the device is.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks!

You can try Uninstalling all instances of Sound Card drivers you see in Device Manager in SAFE MODE [Press F8 during bootup to get Windows Advanced Options menu>with arrow key select Safe Mode>ENTER> Wait till Safe mode shows up on screen>OK>]and then on reboot when Windows finds the new hardware, using your motherboard CD containing the Driver or Driver downloaded from the MoBo or Computer manufacturer's site for the onboard sound, install it.
You can try the same with the USB device driver also.
