Yellow all,
Wondering if someone can tell me how to do the following. Running win xp pro SP 2. Everytime my computer boots into windows, when it gets to the desktop, the system configuration utility screen pops up. checking the box that says do not show this message when windows starts or just clicking the X in the upper right hand corner does not help. Every time I boot this same message appears. Does anyone know what I can do to disable this? Thank you!

isabella, Go to the link below, click on "Win XP Fixes", click on "Disable MSConfig Selective Startup Screen" to download a vbs file. Instructions are on that page.

Don't double click on it - that will toggle the choice back to what it was originally every second click - there must be a checkmark in the box.
The windows will not pop up the NEXT time you boot, if and only if you make no further changes with MSConfig after that before you reboot.

If you did all that properly, then see Tufenuf's fix.

"...or just clicking the X in the upper right hand corner does not help"

That does not do anything but close the window(s). Only a checkmark in the box in the first window works.

By the way, if you click on anything other than the X in the top right corner of the second window, you will get the windows popping up next boot even if you made no changes after that - you have to make the checkmark appear again, then the NEXT boot the windows will not appear.
