I'm sharing a printer on a WinXP computer with a Win98 computer over a LAN. Under Printer Sharing, XP tells me I should load the printer drivers for the other OS's accessing the printer. Of course, Win98 drivers are not digitally signed, and of course, after going through the Wizard, XP won't let the Win98 drivers be loaded because the aren't signed. How do I disable XP's requirement that printer drivers be digitally signed?

Two ways:

First way...
Click Start -> Run
then type: gpedit.msc
then hit enter
Browse the folder tree to the following location:
User Configuration - Administrative Templates - System

now right-click Code signing for Device drivers and select Properties.
On the Settings tab, either select
- enable, and then select ignore from the appearing listbox..
- or click the disable option.
click apply and Ok and your set

Second way:
Go to start/run/ then type secpol.msc
browse to local policies/security options
change "Devices: Unsigned driver installation behavior" setting to Silently succeed.
reboot

Thanks for the prompt reply Eric! I made both changes suggested above as the administrator and as a user with administrative privlgs. No matter what, when I try to install the Win98 printer drivers, I still get the unsigned driver message. The setting in secpol.msc is automatically changed to 'warn but allow' after trying to install the 98 drivers in the printer sharing properties dialogue box. The drivers still don't get installed. (I am rebooting after I make the changes to secpol and gpedit) Any further suggestions?

Yes. XP found a driver for the printer. I can't print from the Win98 computer though

search for win98 drivers on the net for that printer and install it on the 98 machine, but just say whilst installing , that it is a network printer, it will ask you for the path to the printer which u should know
eg "\\xpmachine\laserjet4L - whatever
