Hello,

For the last 6 hours I have been trying to format my HDD, and re-install my windows xp copy.

The problem is: When I try to format, it formats till 100% but the data is still there!!!

i tried disabling the GOBACK program (by pressing ctl+alt+g, but it would not disable itself.

i cannot go into my windows because everytime I restart, the goback screen appears and STALLS on "Please wait..."

I cannot access any menus while pressing spacebar either!

is there a HARD way to remove MBR and FORMAT my HDD??

or any way to disable GoBack??

-BC

hi,
is this the harddrive from the laptop??if so maybe it has bad sectors on it.for formatting i always use a win 98 bootdisk it looks for bad sectors before wiping disk clean.try formatting with a win 98 disk see if the same problem occurs.

Writing zeroes to the drive with something like Powermax should remove it

GoBack has to be uninstalled for xp to load. add/remove programs. when I ran the XP compatibility test before installing, the print out said my version of GoBack was NOT compatible with XP. After removal ,I still had to do a search for GoBack folders and remove manually. After removing EVERY reference to GoBack, XP installed like a charm

From Symantec:

Note that some computers require that you hold down the Ctrl+Alt keys while rapidly tapping the G key.

Press F to force the removal of GoBack from the master boot record.

Not sure if that's what you'd already tried
