Has anyone experienced this problem? Double clicking my desktop icons doesn't open any of the programs except Internet Explorer, but I can open them by left clicking and selecting Open. Also Programs on my start menu don't start unless I left click and select Open. Any help would be appreciated!

check your mouse settings or try using a different mouse. The left button sounds as if it isn't registering the click.

try booting into safe mode and see if the clicks work then.

you could also have you mouse double click settings set way to fast. I did that once, and felt stupid for a while after i found out what was wrong..

Thanks for both replies but unfortunately this goes alittle deeper than that. The mouse works just fine inside of the programs and as I said my IE desktop icon opens just fine with the double click but none of the others do.
I cleaned out quite a number of spyware files after this started and does anyone know if there are any spyware or viruses that cause this type of problem?
I've scanned for viruses but none were found.

TheRideN1, Go to the link below, click on Win XP Fixes, click on File Association Fixes, then download the "LNK (Shortcut) File Association Fix" which is a zip file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt.
