I am in charge of the computer administration at my company and people continue to install Yahoo Messenger to chat online instead of doing work.

Can you please tell me how to permanetly disable people from using Yahoo Messenger? Not just an uninstall because they will re-install it. I need it to crash or not even run so that they are completely blocked fro running it.

I found out a registry fix for MSN Messenger to disable MSN Messenger but I found nothing on Yahoo Messenger.

Any help would be much appreciated.

hey ERIC,

does everyone at your company have admin rights on their machines? I feel your pain and I understand (i'm an external support tech for about 50 companies).

if they don't need to install anything, you can of course set their user profiles to keep them in line.

if you're running OS's that don't provide for that option, then I don't know quite yet what you can do.

I will try and find out, as instant messengers are an irritation i have to deal with as well.

if you find a fix to block Yahoo!, please feel free to email me. I'd like to know.

in the meantime, if I find something, I will post.

good luck!

Hi,
Ok not sure how to disable it completely but if you change all the accounts to limited and uninstall yahoo they shouldent be able to reinstall it ..
allso if you go to these computers and look at My computer>>c:>>program files>> yahoo>>profiles..in there you should be able to see the ID they use, with that you could allso install messanger and be able to see when they are online.
I think you should talk to your staff,or give them more work so they dont have time for chatting.
Another way to do it,im not sure how you find this out , but i think yahoo uses a different port to say IE, so if you find out about that , you may be be able to block it some how ..
Good luck .
