Salgolf. I tried it and it did not work because the tooltip I receive is for and error on startup and is displayed from the sys tray, where a device driver for my cd burner attempts to load and xp loads its own. The device works fine so I just want to disable the tooltip on startup because it is annoying. Anymore suggestions ? Thanks.

I guess I don't understand what you want to disable. I thought you meant the tips that hover over items in the taskbar and elsewhere that tell you what they are and/or what they do.
If you mean something else, could you be a little more explicit? What startup tooltip do you have in mind? Thanks. Sorry to be dense.

I think he means a warning or informational message - not a Tooltip as such
Don't know how they can be disabled?

I do mean the tips that hover over items on the desktop but this one comes from the sys tray at startup saying the driver cannot be loaded and cannot be disabled in the folder view options. Don't know how to get rid of it.
