Hi All,
I have a Sony Vaio Laptop. Recently the LCD screen had gone bad. So I was trying to figure out a way to use external monitor.
These are some of the things which I observed. In all the cases I cant see anything on Laptop screen.
1. If I use default display driver which is Intel 82815 and external monitor then the screen shows up in external monitor only in safe mode and safe mode with other options.
2. If I boot normally I dont see anything. Both Laptop and External Monitor are blank. External monitor is not receiving any signal.
3. If I disable the Intel display driver then I am able to see screen on external monitor. Now option three(3) is fine with me. But the problem is that since I disabled display driver, it is using default driver which only shows up in a resolution 800*600. It wont let me change the resolution. I want to adjust resolution. I googled and found some article which suggested going to BIOS and disabling LAPTOP screen and use External Monitor as primary display device. But unfortunaltey by BIOS setting doesn;t give me an option to change the default display.
Can anyone suggest me how I can connect my Laptop to External display and able to change the resolution?
Thanks

If you boot normally both screens are blank. Sounds like there are two monitors in device manager. Go in there and disable the laptop one. Then try a normal boot.

If I boot normally I cant see anything. If I boot in safe mode then I have only one monitor because the OS disables Laptop screen. So I dont see two monitors in device manager. I cant change the resolution in Safe mode. It wont let me do it.

Boot using safe mode. Go into device manager. click the plus next to monitors. Right click the laptop monitor the click properties. Where its says device useage. click the drop down menu and choose do not use this device (disable}.then click OK. Then check the external monitor and make sure that is on use this device {Enable). then click OK. Exit out and reboot.
