Hi. I installed directx 9 without any problems earlier, but today i found out that the version on my computer is directx 7. I downloaded directx 9, but it won't install. I open it and when i press install button, a screen comes up saying that the driver are installed and ready to use, but no drivers has been installed at all. When i look at dxdiag it still says 7 ?
What can i do to install version 9 ? Can i uninstall version 7 ?

More to the point, how did you get DirectX 7 installed in the first place. It's not part of Win XP at all...

WinXP ships with DX8.1. I don't see how you can possibly have DX7.

I know it's strange, but the diagnostic said directx 7, there was no doubt about that. I don't know how it got there because i've never installed it ?? Anyway i just want to inform that i've solved the problem. I reinstalled Service Pack 2 and then Directx 9c came back again.
But the installation problem is still there, because now that directx 9 is there i tried to reinstall just the directx 9, but it won't reinstall now either.
Guess i have to reinstall Sp2 again if something on directx is damaged again ! But

OK, just to clarify...when you run DXDIAG from Start/Run, on the very 1st screen under 'system information' it lists DX7?

Yes, DXDIAG form start/run. It was showing DX7 !
I have no idea on how it got there, i was very surprised when i saw it. The only way i found out was that none of the games i played worked very well. I got a tip to install DX9, and that's how i found out !
