DirectX 9 Installation problem

when i try and install directx 9/9.0a/9.0b i get an error message saying "This version of DirectX is not compatible with the version of windows currently installed". now i thought Directx 9 was compatible with XP Pro, how can i get Directx 9 to work?

Hit run type services.msc, go to cryptographic service make sure it says automatic and is started.

Thanks for the reply, i did what you asked but i still have the same problem, would it be my graphics card that causes it? (Geforce 4 MX 440)

I might be wrong on this. Some time ago, I read something on DirectX9 (I think I read it) and it says some graphics cards are not compatible with directX9 and that include my card (Radeon 7500, bit old) so I'm still using DirectX8 or whatever it is. I'm not gameholic so I'm not really bothered.

Dx9 will still intall, but the older cards can't take advantage of what it can do for you.
Have you tried uninstalling your video drivers, uninstalling your video card from device manager then restarting, if xp asks for drivers for video card click cancel, let it use its default drivers then try to download and install dx9. Then if it works reload your video drivers.
Whenever you do an OS install it normally works best to load DX9 before your video drivers.
