Comment:

When I run dxdiag a problem is highlighted in the networking tab, which I believe is preventing me from playing online pool etc. It is telling me the directplay8 has 4 errors, 2 in dpnmodem.dll and 2 in dpnwinsock dll. To be honest this means very little to me due to my lack of computer knowledge. I have reinstalled direct x, but no change, please can anyone advise me on what to do next? thanks, Del

Since DirectX 9.0c is part of SP2 released in August 2004, maybe you should get that security update to resolve the problem. That is, unless you have a specific reason to run DirectX 8.

Thanks for the response, I have installed directx 8 and 9 but my computer still refuses to load the pool tables in pool sharks using either version. I have no preference to either, just wanted to play the game! Last time I tried update to windows sp2 I ended up with a blue screen crash! will give it another go.
My computer seems to have a total mind of it`s own at the moment to the extent of only loading windows 1 out of 3 attempts. It also decided not to show anything in add or remove programs. I have tried system restore and run virus checks etc etc. I`m thinking I may have to reinstall windows?
