Hello

I have a problem with running Warcraft 3 on my Win. XP Pro machine. Every time I start up warcraft, I get an error message that warcraft was unable to initialize my direct x. I have direct x 9 c installed and my video and sound drivers are working fine (as per direct x test and driver compatibility) How can I uninstall direct x 9 c and install direct x 8.1 as a more stable version? Many Thanks for any help!

DX9 is NOT your problem, your garbage integrated graphics is the problem. The SIS650 is well over 5 yrs old & never was any good. If you wanna be able to play games, you'll need to get a *REAL* video card that's meant for gaming. If you have a laptop/notebook with the SIS650 chipset, you're out of luck...time to upgrade.

The sis650 integrated video is not the issue. The sis650 is on par with the geforce 2 series if not a bit more advanced.

The base line card that will work with W3 is any DX6 capable card or higher, Rage pro, Rage 128, TNT, TNT2, Geforce series, S3 savage, etc.

Have you tried to re-install DX9c??? Most errors of this type are corrected by a simple re-install. If you want DX 8.1 than go to softwarepatch.com , download it, and re-install.

Also the while the actual hardware might not be the issue, I'm willing to bet you are using some really old video drivers. Go to sis's website www.sis.com I think, and download the latest drivers for the sis 650.

Once again we butt heads.

The SIS650 chipset sucks, as do the majority of SIS chipsets & graphics chips. The SIS650 has the SIS315 graphics chip integrated into it but T&L is disabled. Not to mention it uses slower system memory rather than dedicated graphics memory. It *may* be somewhat comparable to a GF2 but it definitely is not more advanced.

@ precambrian

If you wanna continue banging your head on the keyboard & blaming DX9 for your gaming woes, feel free. But I recommend upgrading to a *REAL* video card IF your system is upgradeable (i.e., not a laptop). You could get an AGP card (if your board supports AGP) for less than $40 that will blow the SIS graphics out of the water. For example:

Radeon 9600PRO 256MB 128-bit - $33
