I have a laptop with xp prof. and a desktop with win2000 Prof. with the help of network wizard setup on both systems, i have connected directly with a serial RS232 cable making desktop with DSL as a host and laptop as guest.
Now, when i click on the connection on laptop its asking me a username and password, no matter i have set none to my desktop. can anybody help me out.
and is it possible to share the internet with the desktop which is having DSL

you would need to have full access to the pc's shares, you will have to change the permissions to allow everyone full access see if that works
