i just bought a new computer with windows xp. my old computer has windows 98 2nd edition. i want to transfer some files from that computer to my new one without using a lot of disk transfer. can i do that without a network card?

Yes if you have a USB port on both computers you can buy a "USB Data Bridge Cable" and hook the two computers together. They are about $25-$40 . You can check one out at http://www.compusb.com/usbdatbridca.html They include software to help with the transfer of your data. hope that helps.
