Comment:

I just got a new Dell with Windows XP loaded.
I also have DirecPC (version4.0.0.36). I can't load the software. I keep getting error 2147221446, can't register msinet.ocx.

Any suggestions?

Can I install DirecPC on WinXP? (#2032)
(back)
Yes, but the process is currently a little cumbersome.
The latest software does not support WinXP but you can install it in Win2k
compatibility mode.

1. Insert your CD and close the install screen that pops up, now open Windows
Explorer. If you are installing from a downloaded version of the software, just
open Explorer at this point.

2. In Explorer, click on the setup.exe file. Right click on the file and select
"Properties". If you are using a downloaded file, use this procedure on the files
after they are extracted to your temp folder.

3. On the Properties page, click on the "Compatibility" tab. Check the box "Run
this program in compatibility mode" and select Windows 2000. Click ok.

4. Launch the setup file by double clicking in Explorer. Follow the install
instructions. You're not done yet, though. Reboot the computer after install
completes. Don't run websetup yet.

5. After rebooting, open the Network connections page in Control Panel. Start
=> Control Panel => Network and Internet Connections => Network
Connections. Right click on the USB Satellite Modem and select "Properties".
Uncheck "QoS packet scheduler". Click OK.

6. Almost done! Open Windows Explorer again and browse to the location of
the DirecPC program files. My Computer => C: => Program Files => DirecPC
=> Bin and right click on EVERY .exe file and set the compatibility mode for
each by right clicking on the file, properties, compatibility mode as you did
before for the setup file. You will have to do this for every .exe file in the other
folders under DirecPC as well. I told you it was cumbersome. Run websetup
now. Good luck! :)#

I have the identical error 2147221446 Source Websetup.util.register control. description - unable to register activex control.
c:\windows\system32\msinet.ocx while running windows 2000 professional. manually installing does not help.
Your solution for xp will not work w/2000.

Could you please offer a solution as I cannot seem to find the solution from anyone else.

Best regards
