Hi,
I was burning some CD's the other day and also today, and when I was getting the CD finalized my ISP dialer would pop up and the machine would hang untill I cancelled the dialer. All my settings on my PC are set to Never Dial a connection. My ISP says it must be Roxio that is sending out a message to start up the internet connection. Roxio quit support on the version 5 on Nov1st 2004....go figure! I disable my AV and any other things I don't need in the background as Roxio uses 100% resources when burning.
Any ideas? My eyes are blue when I think of you

You probably have auto update enabled in Roxio. It is trying to look for updates.
Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

You will need to modify your system settings in order to prevent the dial-up window from appearing. Please try the following steps:
Windows XP users:
1. Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
2. Double-click on the "Internet options" icon.
3. Click on the "Connections" tab.
4. Select "Never dial a connection" under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings."
5. Click "Apply and "OK" to close. You also need to disable windows XP auto dial feature:
1. Click on Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Click on Network and Internet Connections
4. In the left hand window pane click on the My Network Places link
5. In the left hand window pane click on the View Network Connections link
6. Click on "Advanced" in the menu bar
7. Click on "Dial-up Preferences" from the drop down menu
8. Select the AutoDial tab
9. Remove the checkmark by the connection listed in the scroll box
10.Click on OK.

I can't find anywhere on Roxio to disable up-date if there is such a feature
Chuck2...The first part of your answer I've already done
On the 2nd half...I opened my control panel and only have 2 relating options
1-network connection
2-internet options
Neither has the options you suggested.I don't have Network and Internet Connections
Are you sre you are in WinXP?My eyes are blue when I think of you

I think you have Control Panel set to display as
a Menu in the Start Menu.
Maybe try to set it as a LINK.
Right click START,
then Properties,
then Customize button,
then Advanced tab,
then in Start Menu items list, click Control Panel to show as a Link. Now do the above, what I stated.

Hi Chuck,
i did as you said and my control panel is already displayed to show as a link....maybe I'm missing something? Sorry. So I still don't see the things I have to change. My eyes are blue when I think of you

OK.
Try right click the words "Network Connections",
then click Explore,
now up in the Menu Bar you should see the word "Advanced". Now do the remaining items above:6. Click on "Advanced" in the menu bar
7. Click on "Dial-up Preferences" from the drop down menu
8. Select the AutoDial tab
9. Remove the checkmark by the connection listed in the scroll box
10.Click on OK.

Hi Chuck2,
Thank you for the great explicit information, sorry I wasn't understanding the procedure and also your patience. I unchecked the box and will try to burn a cd again to see if that stopped the dialer from popping up.
Thanks again! My eyes are blue when I think of you

Ah, the sweet smell of success...I burnt a CD and the dialer didn't pop up...thank you greatly for your help Chuck2, you are definately a good tech....are you self taught or did you take courses? I don't know why that dialer thing happened right out of the blue, as I have burnt many CD's and then it came up. The funny thing is, is that my ISP techs didn't have a clue of what to do.
Thanks again...

Just one more question, when I turned off that option, is there going to be any repercussions on other programs?

None that I am aware of in your case.
That information on how to stop it, I got from my ISP. The following is the problem I had communicated to them:When I open NZTV, and prior to clicking Connect, there is a Network Connections box that pops up.
>It says:
>Network Connections (in the Title Bar)
>"You (or a program) have requested information from www.cnn.com Which connection do you want to use".
>Below that it has NetZero listed.
>Then below that, buttons for Settings, Connect..., and Cancel.
>If I click Cancel, it will come back in about 10 seconds.
>Is this annoyance related to Netzero software ?
>If so, how do I get rid of it ?
>I have gone so far as to Restore my harddrive to Factory condition, in order to find where it is coming from. It returned within 3 or 4 days.
>My "Spyware-Xterminator" program detects nothing related to it.
>OS is XP Home on a Compaq Presario 5320US.
>Help please.
