Hey guys..have an annoying problem.

I went and replaced my dial up modem because the other went bad. I used dial up Net Zero and ever since I put the new one in I cannot get netzero to dial out. I can dial out from the hyperterminal on XP and I can query the modem successfully. I changed the com ports from 1 to 4. Nothing. Tried the crap solutions from netzero which didnt help.

Anyone have any ideas? Kinda frustrating.

Just a note....cause this may be it... I was having problems with my printers not showing up...turned out the spooler service and the LxeServer (Lexmark server) was disabled in services. Once I enabled and rebooted the printers were fine.

When I try to setup dial up networking I get errors....And when I go into event viewer..these are the errors I get..

The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 126 (0x7E).

Get the latest Netzero software. Install it.
Installation will setup a phoney dial-up icon, which CANNOT BE USED for connecting.

Use the Netzero icon on the desktop to setup your dialing preferences, and dialup phone number. Once that is set up, then always use the Netzero desktop icon to connect to the Internet.

Do the following to prevent the dialup dialer from popping up(from Netzero):

You will need to modify your system settings in order to prevent the dial-up window from appearing. Please try the following steps:

Windows XP users:

1. Click on the "Start" button and select "Control Panel."
2. Double-click on the "Internet options" icon.
3. Click on the "Connections" tab.
4. Select "Never dial a connection" under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings."
5. Click "Apply and "OK" to close.

You also need to disable windows XP auto dial feature:

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Control Panel
3. Click on Network and Internet Connections
4. In the left hand window pane click on the My Network Places link
5. In the left hand window pane click on the View Network Connections link
6. Click on "Advanced" in the menu bar
7. Click on "Dial-up Preferences" from the drop down menu
8. Select the AutoDial tab
9. Remove the checkmark by the connection listed in the scroll box
10.Click on OK.

If you are still having problem, then I am not
sure of what to do.

Also there is the possibilty that when you installed the new modem that the settings in Netzero sofeware and phoney dialer remained the same as for your old modem.

Suggest you uninstall Netzero, and make sure the
dialup icon is gone. Then reinstall Netzero.

OR
Right click the Netzero Dialup icon,
then Properties,
then on the General tab,
make sure the "Connect Using:" is set to your
new modem.

I have a similar phoney dial-up connection which was set up by my juno isp. I've networked a laptop and desktop (both xp) sharing files and printer. this works ok. I also have juno dial-up internet connections on both machines. Now after running the network wizzards on both machines I'm trying to connect to the internet from my laptop via the network (cable) using the juno dial-up connection in my desktop. when I try to connect, the phoney dial-up connection on the desktop gets dialed. It's phone no. is 2222 so I get messages and busy rings. I need to find a way to bring up the juno sign-on window which has the correct number, my id and password. I'd appreciate help. Thanks, g paul
