Comment:

I have a Toshiba Satellite 2250CDT Notebook w/ internal 56k dial up modem. The modem is configured fine (when I go into the Device Mgr, it says "This device is working properly" and is set on com 3. When I try to set up an internet connection manually, "Connect using a dial up modem" is not highlighted, so I can't use the dial up modem when I travel. Pretty strange, since the modem is working fine in the device mgr. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Put in your XP cd. Got to start>run>type sfc>hit enter. Might be a corrupted winsock.

Give him a sedagive -
