Hi there,

There is probably a really simple solution to this but it's got me stumped. I've got a 56k dial up internet connection on one of the fixed monthly cost packages. The problem is that the connection keeps cutting out seemingly randomly (sometimes it will stay connected for 30 minutes to an hour, most of the time it keeps cutting out after 2 or 3 minutes). I've tried changing the ISP provider but the problem remains. I've just got a new PC and didn't have this problem with my old PC so I think it must be something in my current PC's settings causing this but I cannot for the life of me find it. The connection remains in constant use when it is connected (i.e. it's not idle) and i've tried increasing the time before the PC hangs up but with no joy.

Can anyone suggest any other potential causes of (and solutions to - other than getting BB) this problem?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Also, keep the phone wire between the computer and the wall UNDER 6 ft.

And don't split it.

Good Luck.

First of all make sure there is no static on the lines. IF there is call phone company. Next if you have a v92 modem make sure you company supports it(most likely not) If they don't try using modem strings to disable it. There are also modem strings to let your modem withstand line static that might cause your disconnect. Also make sure that you do not have the only connect at this speed checked in your modem properties. You might also want to try and lower the speed that might also help. To change strings in modem to to you phon and modem options in the control panel. Then click on the modem tab then click properties on your modem. On the new window click on advanced There you will find the exstra settings box. The line noise command is S12=X (x=0-10) 0= is the highest setting tolerates most noise. Some other commands can be found on this site.

I suggest you try unplugging your phone from the same connection while you connect and if it improves thats your prob.

Some phones are not compatible, mine is'nt so i leave it out while i'm on the net. Speed went from 33k to 50k.

let us know how you get on.
