DHCP service hangs,can't start/stop

July 5, 2005 at 09:04:23
Specs: Windows XP, Pentium III 256 Ram

I am unable to get on the internet(I have cable) due to my DHCP service hanging. After booting, when I bring up the services, it says starting but it never does. The Event ID is 1004 in my even log. I've tried staring it manually and that doesn't work either. I don't know what could have happened. I didin't install/uninstall anything from the time it worked til the time it didn't. Please help!! I'm going crazy on this webtv!!

three tips:

1. Make sure you only have dhcp client
runing and not dhcp server.

2. unplug power to the cable modem and to
the hub/switch and to the computer then
wait 3 mins(timed) then power up the cable
modem then the hub/switch and then the
computer. Also make sure that your computer
is the only one on the network for testing
purposes until you get everything back up
and running.

3. Otherwise you can always put in the ip
address, subnet mask, gateway and dns
numbers manualy and bypass the dhcp client
