Comment:

After installing some things, (i think both times it was a cd burning softwar), when going to reboot after the installation, DEVLDR32.exe hangs and I end the task. However, after that I am unable to use Shut Down, or Restart, or even Log Off. I have to cold boot the machine to restart it. Anyone have any info on what that executable does and why it stops responding after certain installs? and prevents me from rebooting?

let me also add that i do have sound blaster live! with the 2000 drivers installed. dunno if that's an issue, but i think it might have something to do with it.

The Soundblaster Live software replaces that xp file with its own version. You have to replace Soundblaster's version with the original from the xp installation CD. It's in i386 on the CD.

i have the same problem. windows xp already installed and i got a new sound card - creative sb live value and then installed the software and i get DevLdr32 problem all the time.

Unfortunately Mike (response 2) replacing the file with the original from windows xp disk did not work for me.

There are actually multiple versions of this program on your Windows directory. The one you need to delete is the one in the actual system32 folder, NOT the one in the system32/ReinstallBackups/0001/DriverFiles/i386 folder.

Within 2000 you may find a hack won't work, or just for a couple of seconds... the original file is restored almost immediately. The "System File Checker" is optimized and can be disabled by adding/editing a Dword valua at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon called "SFCDisable" and set it to "ffffff9d" (no quotes).

I use SoundBlaster Live (3) on XP and it works fine.
I had to download the file SBLiveXPDrvUpdate.exe from their web site and everything is OK...

Good luck to you all.

Andre
