Device manger can't be opened

Hi. i can't open an device manager and I don't know when exactly this happens because I was able to do it before. eveytime i try to open it an Microsoft Management Console window appears saying that "MMC requires internet explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed". when I close the MMC window, the Device Manager window closes too. any helps will be appreciated. thanks you in advance

i'm using an window XP/w sp2 and it already has a IE 6.0 installed on it. thanks

try this way and see what happens

start > (r clk) my computer > properties >
hardware tab > device manager

Hate to say this, but I've worked on a few PC's with that problem, but after removing all Spy, Adware and viruses I was able to access Device manager. These freebies work great for spy & adware removal
Spybot S&D
Adaware SE
A2squared
On-line Spyware Scan

A system restore could also help.

Try the basic things and maybe post back on how you make out.

I think XpUser4Real may be correct. I've checked the error message MMC requires internet explorer 5.5 or greater to be installed against the known error codes generated by Device Manager in Windows XP. None rang up.

You're welcome oxmam. A system restore is usually where I start out and branch out from there to different options. Glad it worked for you.
