I need to figure out which port ZIM SMS Chat uses, so I can open it, and be able to use the program properly.. I've contacted the company, but apparently, they're not very customer friendly, as I have never gotten a single response, to 3 seperate emails...

It's an awesome program, when I can get it to work (which was ONCE!).. and, if I hook-up without my netgear router, I'm able to use it..

so.. does anyone here know how to find which port a program is using, without getting the info from the makers of the program?

Try this:

Start the program and wait a minute. Now open the Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC). Go to View > Select Columns. Make sure the PID checkbox at the top is checked. Now look in the list and find the executable for your program (you can sort by name by clicking the Image Name column header). Once found take note of it's PID.

Now open a command prompt (Start > Run > "cmd" > OK). Type netstatĀ -ano In the results, find any entries with the same PID as the one you saw in the Task Manager. The port is the number after the : in the address, for example 192.168.50.23:80 would be port 80.

Now all that said this might be worthless. The program may use a random set of ports in a large range. If your router and the program support it try enabling uPnP. This should allow the program to configure the router as needed. If it doesn't have it you should consider not using the program. Any communication software that doesn't work with NAT or at least uPnP should be avoided in my opinion.

You could always just try the possible ports one by one!
