Details View within an Application

Is there a way to permanently set my view to "details" within the applications I use on XP? For example, when I open files from within MGI Photosuite, my files appear in "Thumbnail" view. I can click and change to "Detail" view, but when I close and reopen the program, it will still open files as "Thumbnail". This happens for other applications as well (especially photo applications).
Open Explorer and open any folder. Change the view to details. Then click on Tools, Folder Options. Click on the the View Tab. Click on the Apply to all folders button in the Folder Views section. All your folders should now open in details view.

If you go to Control Panel\Folder Options\View and check 'remember each folder's view settings' then you can set each folder however you want it and Windows will remember it
ie details for some, list for others, icons for some etc

I had already done both suggestions (above) before and my view works fine when viewing files from within Windows Explorer. However, if I go into an application and open a file (from the application itself), the "open" action from the application still shows as a thumbnail view. Any ideas on how to get this to permanently view as "details"?
I am in the same situation : done both steps but still the same old views. may be some registry tweak necessary. will appreciate any help on this situation
