I am completely baffled - I have an IBM laptop i 1300 series ,model 1171-9AU. Last week, EVERY time I went to get on the internet, it would crash, and I'd be asked to send a report to Microsoft. It happened with Mozilla and IE. I may have been able to visit 1 or 2 pages, but it would crash within a minute.
I reformatted and reinstalled WIN XP, and it did the SAME THING!! I thought my copy of XP had gotten corrupted, so I installed WIN 98SE. The first installation went fine, but when I went to get on the internet, the SAME THING happened. I tried to install it again, and I got several errors during the installation, and I ended up buying a new hard drive, because I eventually couldn't boot. I installed the ne hard drive, installed Win 98SE, and booted. Within a few minutes, it crashed. I've tried sticking with IE 5.5, and not updating to 6. But the fact that I crashed in IE and Mozilla suggests a deeper problem. The question is, what could it be that installing a new Hard drive, and putting 2 diff't OS wouldn't fix????
I got all drivers from IBM website, so I don't think it could be a driver conflict

or you are looking in all the wrong places.

Failing nic, failing memory, would be where I would look.

CLEARLY it is NOT a OS or driver problem.

thanks for the replies. I would try to replace parts, but it is a laptop, and it is hard to find parts.
Ihave thought of a failing NIC, but i tried a wireless card, and it did the same thing.
My ISP said that I am receiving a signal, (I have broadband) and it did it with 2 different modems, so it was not their problem.
Any other ideas????
