desktop,start menu text garbled

my desktop and start menu text are garbled. It looks like symbols instead of text. text on apps while readable is not normal looking. swapped video card and reloaded video driver to no avail. Seems like a virus but I use a up to date virus scan.

Your Fonts folder is probably saying there is no Fonts if that is the case go into regedit and make sure HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts\ is there. If not add a new key called Fonts then reinstall your fonts. After that reboot and hopefully your system is back to normal.
I'm having the exact same problem! I'm not very computer savy, so would anyone mind telling me how to "add a new key" to re-install my fonts, as suggested by Anthony Sae-Chua. Anthony, if you're reading this, please let me know how to do this. Thanks!
