desktop, start menu task bar gone

i don't know if anyone can help me but my sisters desktop and start menu and task bar at the bottom of screen are all gone... she started up her computer one day and they were all empty... wallpaper still there but none of the icons or the task bar... any ideas.

See if this works:

Press Ctrl and Esc keys at once, and bring up the Start Menu.

Go to Control Panel (Classic view), and 2x click on Taskbar and Start Menu icon. In the Properties page that appears, under Taskbar Appearance, if you have a check mark next to Auto Hide, uncheck it. Or, if you don't have a check mark, click to check it. Click on OK, and see if the Taskbar is back.

Once the Taskbar is in view again, might want to go back to the Properties dialog box and enter your preference for Auto Hide.

she tried the virus scan and it came back clean
any other ideas.
and the CRTL ESC key thing doesn't work
