Comment:

Have program icon on desktop
Have same shortcut icon on desktop.
I want to remove the program icon from the desktop without deleting the program.

Just delete it. It wont delete the program. Delete the shortcut.

How did the Program itself get onto the Desktop?

If the Program itself is in Add\Remove then you can Uninstall it and Re-Install somewhere else - then make a new Shortcut from the .exe File - after you've Deleted the old Shortcut
