Hi
I am having some problems regarding my background for my desktop. Following an infection of a virus my desktop was changed to advertise for different spy ware packages and i detected three trojan viruses. Following removal of these viruses my background is now white and flickers beige. I am unable to change the background even though in the properties menu it tells me that i have. The only time i actually see my selected background is shortly before shutdown. I have run anti virus and ad aware multiple times and i am unable to solve it. if any one has anyone suggestions that would be greatly appreciated.

thankyou

Try right clicking on your desktop and selecting Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop button, Web tab and then delete any items in the list and/or deselect the "My current homepage".

"select properties it only shows one tab which says general"

Where does the Properties page state that you have changed the background; on the General tab?

Is this machine running WinXP as my WinXP machine does not show a 'General' tab in Display properties.

If it is WinXP then try going to Start, Control Panel, Appearance and themes, Change the desktop background. Then see if you can then get the appropriate tabs to follow the rest of my previous instructions.

You have my interest so do post back,

yes i am running windows xp. When selecting properties by right clicking only a general tab is shown. i am however able to change background via control panel as stated in the above post but it doesn't actually change the back ground it remains white and flickers beige. The only time i do see the background that i have chosen is just before shutdown or for a couple of seconds sometimes when i click on boxes and icons etc

if anyone has any suggestions please post back

thanks for your help

If you do have more than just the "General" when you get into the Properties page via the Control Panel then...While on the Desktop Tab (where you are able to change the background image) Hit the Customize Desktop button, Web tab and then delete any items in the list and/or deselect the "My current homepage".

Your current background, that you selected and can see during shutdown, is covered up by the invalid and flickering .html page. To get rid of it you need to deselect it from the "Web" tab.

Any luck?

Andrew,
You are welcome.

If when you right click on the Desktop and then select Properties and only see a tab titled as "General" then you may need to repair Windows XP to fix it. But you do now you know another way to get there.

David,

Unless the following information helps then do post a new thread in order to get others to see your problem so that they may help.

This 'Security' alert. Is it the result of an Administrator's policy.
Meaning, is this a home machine where you are the only administrator or are you subject to another person's policies?

Also, is there any more information on the Alert screen?

Regards,
Bryan
