desktop problem with white box

March 17, 2009 at 19:46:17
Specs: Windows XP
i closed a webmail connection and two strange things happened. all of the titles below the desktop icons now have a color background. also, a white box [6 inches by 4 inches] appeared on the upper center part of my desktop. within the white box is a faint circle with lines like longitude and latitude grids. the north south orientation is slightly tilted to the left.
i went to desktop properties and tried all sorts of things with no luck. i ran my virus and adware programs but the problem remains.

any thoughts would be appreciated

iamvlad,

Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Desktop tab click the Customize Desktop button, under the Web tab uncheck ALL boxes, click OK/Apply/OK.

Then go to the link below if the icon text still has a colored background and follow the instructions.

iamvlad, As far as what caused it it could be a virus or malware since your Desktop changed. Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Desktop tab click the Customize Desktop button, under the Web tab post back with what items are appearing in the "Web Pages" box. They should all be unchecked.
