Does anyone know a program or a way to take pictures of your desktop, without using a camera, if there are any programs out there that are capable of doing this, but are not spyware or anything like that.

Thank-You

the prt scr key takes a snapshot of your desktop. open paint and choose paste to see what i mean.

alt/prt scr takes a shot of the active window.

When i said desktop i meant what you see on the monitor. If you want a picture of your actual desk you will need a camera :).

Look for Printkey2000

Search Yahoo or Alta Vista or any other.

It is freeware and it does what I think you want. It is a screen capture utility that takes a "picture" of exactly what you see on your monitor.

But doesn't Print Screen do this ?

I've just done it to make sure and got exactly what I'm seeing - including this message and with bits of Background in the background

Hi Carlo!
For several months I am using a free application "Capture Express", it does just what you're asking for. I have the Version 1.1 freeware. I see that they have now the Version 1.1A and asking $15 for it. This program works excellent, it puts an icon in the taskbar, you assign a hotkey and you can take a snapshot out of every screen you have on your monitor. You can capture just a face out of a group, a part of the screen or the whole screen. You can save it in jpg, Bmp and other formats. You can capture a square, rectangle, Circle, Star, Triangle, Ellipse, etc. with colored background or without.
Even $15 is very well spent for a nice little program like this one. Here is the site to download.

Cheers de Peter

prt scr is all you need. those 3rd party software utilities offer options like saving the image as a different file format.

You would do better getting a graphics program or image optimizer and forget about screen capture utilities.
