Desktop not showing

Hi I require an urgent help. I have winxp and while I
was working windows got frozen. I rebooted the
computer and now the windows desktop is not loading anymore only the wallpaper is showing.
I cant login to safe mode as same thing happens. Cant see the desktop again. I have tried network card as well as command prompt. Is anybody able to advice what I need to. I have a lot of documents on hard drive which I havent
backed up. pls advice

Try to open task manager, by pressing Ctril Alt and Del at the same time.

once you have that open GoTo

File >> New Task and type explorer.exe

now press enter and tell us what happens.

You might be able to do something with ERD commander

Or get a boot cd like knoppix to get your data off.
