bigbird123, Go to the link below and download the "URL File Association Fix (Restores default associations for URL - Internet shortcuts)". Instructions for running it are on the page.

If I right click anywhere on this webpage and select "Create Shortcut" then it creates a shortcut on my desktop.

Is this how you are doing it too?

Otherwise, the link you are wanting isn't a javascript link is it? (they are not meant to work from a shortcut, they refer to information on the page where they reside.)

For the shortcut to this page...
Right click on it and select Properties. On it's Web Document tab; what is the showing URL?

It should be:

Hi Win+E to open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools, Folder Options, File Types, scroll down to htm and html.
Click on it once and select Advanced.
Select Internet Explorer and make sure there is a check next to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Click Ok. Do the same for html.

Bryan, followed aboved instructions and still no go. I did notice that when i checked the properties of the shortcut it didn't have the htm or html suffix. Could that be the problem? if so how do i fix that?

Why it is losing the extention is beyond my present knowledge therefore I don't know the fix either but you can open it's properties and manually add the appropriate extention of .htm and then Click Apply and/or Ok.
The shortcut should then work as expected.

I would recommend you post a new thread inquiring as to why, that when you create a shortcut (explaining how you do it as noted above) that it loses the extention making it unusable without manually adding the appropriate extention.

You have now narrowed down what the problem is but now need to know the cause and cure.

The first step to resolving a problem is properly identifying what the problem is as you have above.

I will look for your new posting so I too can see what offerings come from it.

Best regards,
Bryan
