Desktop items and taskbar disapeared

December 26, 2011 at 04:53:35
Specs: Windows XP
Recently installed Blackberry software which also contained Roxio software. After installing the computer re-booted. Windows log on screen was visible but with an error of RoxWatch9.exe error.

I'm able to log on to Windows but the only thing showing is my wallpaper. No icons, no taskbar. I can get task manager up but when I click on new task to type a command it doesn't recognise any commands and either says path invalid or there is no programme associated with this file. Tried explorer.exe and it can't find it and tried system restore from task manager but again can't find the file. If I click on browse, My Computer icon has no picture next to it.

I've tried to transfer files from my other computer but just get the same message of "there is no programme associated with this file"

Booted in safe mode and still have the same problem.

Any help or advice anyone can give will be much appreciated as this is getting very frustrating!!!

You must have installed an old version of BlackBerry Desktop Software because the latest version does not contain any Roxio software. BlackBerry stopped using Roxio applications in it's Desktop Software at least six months ago because of complaints about the Roxio stuff causing Windows to become unstable.

Download latest version from here:

Use System Restore first to get Windows running properly again, then install the latest BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Thanks for the reply. How can I run a system restore? Tried doing it through Task Manager but it doesn't recognise any commands? Can't get a command prompt either

This is how you can open Sys. Restore through command prompt:

1) Restart your machine.
2) Boot into Safe Mode.
3) Choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt".
4) Type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the quotation marks and press enter.

There you go.

I've managed to get a command prompt and got the system restore window up but it's a blank screen. It says system restore on the blue bar at the top but there's nothing to view. How can I view the options so I can do a restore?

Try this:

1) Open Task Manager>File> click New Task (run...)
2) In the dialog box, type "regsvr32 jscript.dll" without quotation marks, and then click "OK".
3) Click "OK"
4) Repeat the steps in reply #3
