My computer freezes completely, mouse, keyboard, drives etc.I do not get a warning,no error messeges,no noises and even when it happens keeps changing. While it is running I have checked for viruses and malware. There is none.My hard drive sounds ok and passed the western digital hard drive test.I have cleaned all fans(2) and insides of all dust.Temps I got from software measurements stayed around 42 degrees.Going crazy, any help would be appriciated

"...no noises...." ?

... had experience with heat expansion effecting contact pin(s) on laptop harddrive header ... random freeze lock and release

... solution: ... I bent the pins very slightly to connect better!

... check all relevant connections!

checked all connects inside chassis everything tight.Until this suddenly happened this computer had no problems and nothing new was added. This also is a Gateway E4600 desktop. Is letting me type right now but wouldn't let me redo a test a bit ago.Had to manually shutdown then restart.Strange.Froze during typing.

Just tried to do that and froze up 2 times after 3 mins each time but before it froze I received on system error 7026 listing many files like AFD,BANTExt,cinemsup,Fips,IPSec,MRxsmb,NetBios,NetBT,Processor. The other says error 7001 Savrt device attached not funtioning.I had disconnected my DVD burner so may be why.Now I'm wondering if I need to clean install the OS?

"...Just tried to do that and froze up 2 times after 3 mins each..." sorry was trying to type real fast before I froze again.I was trying to do the error logs you suggested and was having difficultly, therefore the strange line.I was thinking since the errors I am getting are all centered in DCOM and Service Control Manager a clean install would work.Next would maybe be a hard drive cause it stops dead when os freezes. That just may be because its frozen.I'll try reinstall first.I'll let you know what happened when I can. Thanks for all your help!

There may be several reasons why your computer may be freezing. First question is when was the last time you cleaned your registry. Having a corrupted registry can cause a whole host of errors and problems. Freezing up is one of them. If you have a lot of unnecessary registry keys that are hogging up your computer resources. Your computer is bound to choke. Scan your registry with a good registry cleaner. If you pull up more than 20 errors or duplication, clean your registry.

2. Depending on your RAM specs and your computer usage. This could also be a the issue. Having an insufficient amount of free space does not allow your RAM to function properly. If you are using a lot of RAM by net surfing or other activities without enough empty space your will get freezes. You don't need to buy new RAM but you should increase your free space by removing unnecessary data and perhaps increasing your virtual memory. The below link will show you how.

3. Spyware could be the culprit, so do a scan and see if your computer is infected. So do a hijackthis scan to see if your security program missed a rogue process.

4. Another area is a hardware drivers. This could be the problem if new hardware has been added to the system. So, the drivers should still be up to date. So try the first two suggestion and see if you can get your computer to stop freezing.
Check your drivers.

5. Lastly, check the dust buildup on the fan to make sure you system is cooling properly

Thanks gmh,did all 5 of your items before I wrote cause after that I wasn't sure what could be the trouble.Let me say I reinstalled(clean) OS during which it still kept freezing. Finally installed, still same thing.Thought maybe hard drives but its not.One thing I haven't been able to check is the psu.Fan runs on it fine,is not hot,but may not be getting proper power? Thanks you guys for trying to keep me sane.

No noise.I have since pulled 1 drive and installed the OS.Different drive and was freezing while downloadind.I then unhooked this drive and rehooked original which I had just clean installed OS but had many freezes having to shut down by button and restart,so its not the hard drives.I used the DVD to install the OS and used the CDROM to install another program to see if they were ok.Fans running but put another fan after opening the side just to see.Still froze, push button off back on.Something new, sometimes the power button appears orange,I turn it off using the same button and will go green and back on.Sometimes but not many the freezing occurs after around 25-30 mins. Most times its 10secs-3mins making me almost bald.Right now I have it running with new OS clean but doesn't last. Not quite ready to give up yet.I've never been beat before but this may be it.Thanks guys
