Desktop Freezes after startup

just built my own computer is runs xp home has pchips m848alu motherboard 20gb hdd and 2800+ amd sempron 2.0ghz cpu whenever i start up the pc it loads up to desktop screen and then after ten seconds every thing freezes i restart but the same thing happens. When I go into safe mode the computer is fine???anyone know how to fix ???? **btw its not a virus because the computer has not been connected to the internet and i have not instalkled anysoftware that would have caused this problem** thnx
Summary: Hi Folks, Almost everything is unusable immediately after startup, at times i will be able to use my IE but before long it will cease, to the extend that you can not even close the IE window....
Summary: in normal startup, my computer freezes about 30-60 seconds after the logon screen apears...in safe mode it doesnt freeze until you run a program...what is the problem? ...
Summary: Dell 4550, reformated the computer because of a slow startup issue I was having, now that it's redone it starts like it should, but when I goto the "Connect to" tab in the start menu the menu freezes....
