Somehow my husband changed the desktop fonts from normal and with a translucent background rectangle to some weird font with underlines and white background. I know how to use the desktop properties and that doesn't fix it. How do I put it back?
By the way under appearance my Effects button does nothing. Can you help?

I'm sorry. That didn't do anything. The fonts are like that in everyfolder and when I try to delete a link in the recyle bin it opens the webpage instead and then deletes it. Everything is underlined too along with the colored boxes on the desktop. I can change the color through apperance..but not get rid of it all together.

Bonnietalcott, Have you tried a System Restore to the closest date prior to when this problem started? Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

This sounds like

(The default is double-click) Try that

Bonnietalcott,
This is just a WAG but try this:

Open the Control Panel.
Open Display Properties.
Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
Make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked including My Current Homepage.
Restart your computer.

Does your husband remember what he changed?

So my suggestion wasn't it either? That's the only setting I know that can cause desktop icons to become underlined--it makes them act like links in a web browser so taht you don't have to double click.

Nah, Can't replace hubby, he's too important to me. I'm just starting to get him trained after 24 years!:)

Anyway, I got rid of the underlines. I had changed the settings in folder options to single click instead of double click.

Now, How do I make the highlites translucent again on the Icons?

By the way, I really appreceiate the way everyone is helping me with this! :)

Oh, I forgot. No, Dave didn't change any settings that he knows of. He was copying a cd/dvd or something.

Bonnietalcott, Should have also added these instructions.

Right click the desktop
Select "Properties"
Select the "Desktop" tab
Press the\"Customize Desktop" button
Select the "Web" tab
Uncheck all listed items.
Also insure that Right Click Desktop > Arrange Icons By > Lock Web Items on Desktop
is not checkmarked.
