I personally don't have XP but a friend does and I was fixing it for him today. (5 infected files and 183 spyware stuff)
But, when I tried to save something to the Desktop for easy access it was not on the visual desktop.
I searched and found it in C:\AllUsers\xxfamily\Desktop
I tried copying the folder to C:\Windows such as it is in Win98 but still nothing would show on the desktop.
My question...Where is the Desktop folder supposed to be located in WinXP?
I suspect the problem is related to they used to logon against each of the 3 family names but do so no longer. They just go right into Windows without seeing a login screen. My guess is that the Desktop is still in the individual login's folder but since it is using an 'AllUsers' Auto-login that the Desktop is in the AllUsers folder.
Since I don't know WinXP I am guessing. If anyone has a better guess as to why the problem then please share that too.
Thanks and regards,
Bryan

C:\Documents and Settings\"username"\Desktop
Note the "username" should be replaced with your friends login name.
Rich

Turns out it was turned off at Right click on Desktop, Properties, Desktop, Show icons.

Bryan
