hi,
im using windows xp professional with sp1 installed. every now and then, when i try to open up "my computer" the entire desktop disappears for a while, leaving only the wallpaper. then about 10 seconds later, it all reappears, exxcept for a few items in the system tray. this doesnt seem to be harmful, but its annoying. it happens about every hour. any ideas? thanks

Do you have alot of icons on your desktop. I was having the exact same problem and it seemed to get worse with each new icon I placed on my desktop. My problem seems to be solved now. I increased my icon cache. Search the web to find out how to increase it. I changed mine to 10000. It is a simple 1 line registry edit. If you have any problems let me know or if you dont want to edit your registry I can write you the file so all you have to do is click on it. Let me know how goes. My desktop refreshes so quick now I dont hardly even see the icons flash and no loss in my system tray.
