I am baffled !! Dell PC ..year era 2000tho upgraded this year, starts up by its self every week day at 7:45am, on the dot! is ex company and has been upgraded with latest XPS t ??... it doesn't shut down by itself tho, I manually have do the click Start/ 'shut down' button and it shuts down completely tho it is still plugged into the wall power fan noise or any other noise, or lights show at all.
How can I adjust it to the time settings I does save a lot of 'same' starting every morning but it would be great to get to to Auto shut down too!

Check the BIOS settings under boot options for Wake-On settings such as WOL (Wake on Lan) etc., and disable it if it is enabled.

There is most likely a setting in the BIOS that does this. When you find it you can set it to whatever you wish. You won't find a setting for auto shutdown.

I assume the bios wake on lan should fix it.

Some odd company systems could have a special type of card that is similar that is used for remote management that could cause it too.

I also suggest that you put all that computer stuff on a power strip. All the wall warts and power supplies and the monitor and computer. Some have protection for lan and phone too. It helps protect it against some spikes and should save energy.

What does BIOS mean...and where?...I'm a retiree pensioer and just 'tickle' the keys..ha-ha!
Yesterday I stripped the PC of all its plug in wiring..disconnected phone line etc also, diagrams taken of course, to put back ..and even moved the 'naked' Tower to another wall power socket with a surge board to plug into. Lo and behold..7am this morning up it started by I plugged the monitor in to check..and the screen was showing as normal !
Am I correct in assuming that this proves it the PC..(wake on lan is my type of connection, isn't it...Broadband or Dial up..mine just shows the B'Band icon nothing else.
Could your instructions be very easy for me plse...treat me as illiterate PC'er, ha-ha
Thanks for advice so far...Alec
