I am receiving the blue screen of death on my pc. I ran a system tree diagnostic check and this is the message: IDE Disk S/N= MRLB55l4jbgjgc-read test. Error code: 0F00: 0244 Msg Block 23092700: uncorrectable data error or media is write protected. Aslo, error code 0F00: 1A44 Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected Msg Block 23092701. What does this mean, and what can I do to repair the problem? Thanks in Advance for your advice and support.

It means that the integrity of your HD is beginning to deteriorate with bad sectors. I hope you have backup of files dear to you. Time to replace the HD is in order.

I have no idea what a "system tree diagnostic" is. But you might want to download a hard drive diagnostic from the drive manufacturer's web site, just to double check.

As stated earlier the hard drive appears to be failing. Follow the guideline of BACKUP DATA NOW! If in warranty contact DELL for replacement or get a new drive and depending on the drive state GHOST might clone it or a reinstall is going to be needed. Either way this is the same symptom that we get in the shop frequently for the different brands we repair.

Good luck

Hi,

My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program. It does sound like your drive is failing. Do you know if your system is still covered by your service contract? You can find out by going to our support site, http://support.Dell.com and click on the Warranty Information in the top left corner. It will ask you for your service tag, which is located on a sticker attached to the bottom of your notebook.

If your system's contract is still valid you can contact any of our technical support groups via the Contact Us link at the bottom of the support web site pages. Or if you prefer you can post back here and I can help you to replace the drive.

I'll stop back to see whether I can be of further help to you.

Thank you,

Todd
