I have a dell 5100 inpiron notebook computer. I just brought it home and turned it on and nothing. The screen blinks for a moment and the cap locks button is blinking. Does anybody know how I can remedy this. I think it may be a problem with the power supply.

Are you supposed to charge the battery before using the PC? If so, did you? Is the LED on the power supply on, indicating that it is getting AC? Does the power LED on the notebook indicate (probably steady green) that it is getting juice from the power supply? Try removing battery and putting it back in.

Most laptops will/should work regardless of whether or not the battery is charged (as long as they are plugged into the mains).
As to what is problem here - sadly???
Have you had a chat with Dell?

Problem fixed, It seems that the bios temp chip on that model is bad. So I bypassed it with some useful sodering and Bingo got it working again. Only problem is if my CPU does ever actually burn out I Am pretty much screwed, or have a nice fire on my lap. Thanks for help anyway.
