I want to donate my Dell Dimension 2350 to charity. How do I make sure all my files and documents are deleted and won't be accessed again. Do I just delete the files and empty the trash or is there a more secure way to delete files permanently?

You will probably be advised to wipe the whole drive. But you might consider not doing that. There is a partition on the hard drive with a recovery partition that the next person might be able to use to restore the PC to the way it came from the factory.
I would suggest a shredder that just clears the C: drive and leaves the recovery partition.

Use Eraser (POST 1) for good measure, then use the Dell recovery CD's to restore the machine back to how it came from the factory. This formats/overwrites the C: drive.
It's a good day when you learn something
