Perhaps the audio driver is missing or corrupted....was it working and suddenly stopped? Virus?

That is the vista driver but will likely work if your windows 7 is 32 bit. Right click "computer" and then select properties.....does it say you have 64 bit or 32??? If it says 64, do not install the above driver and I'll look for another. That system only provides the xp drivers.

That machine is designed for DOS & XP;

A new machine with/for Windows 7 is a lot easier.

It's a good day when you learn something

I had the same issue after W7 upgrade and after pulling my hair out for a few weeks found this - which works. You need to install the sound card driver using Windows XP emulation mode. If it's the Soundblaster Live! card, download the driver from Creative (Soundblaster Live V5.1) to your downloads directory and Right Click on the installation file, select PROPERTIES in the dialogue box and on the tab for COMPATIBILITY select tick box for RUN IN COMPATIBILITY MODE FOR Windows XP Sp3 (update to SP3 if it's not already) and also lower down in PRIVILEGE LEVEL select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Bobs your uncle - working sound (I hope - well it worked for me).
