It would help if you posted the name of the program you are using to run the dvd.

Does the dvd run and then freeze or just freeze when you try to run it....and is this on all dvd's or just the one?

Is this a factory dvd or a home burnt disk?

How did you turn it off and on? Is this an external USB CD/DVD drive?

So you are re-booting the computer, not just turning off the DVD?

Did this problem just start?

Has this setup worked in the past?

Did you just install Power DVD?

What version of Power DVD are you using?

It's not that built in software that is checking whether or not your DVD/CD is writable or not ... but, taking 1 complete minute to come to that conclusion, often locking whole computer ?
